Nissan has cemented a deal that will see its two heaviest products available through the Volvo network. Kevin Swallow reports.

The Nissan CV dealer network has been expanded under an agreement that will make its vehicles available through selected Volvo outlets.

Interstar and Cabstar models can now be bought, part exchanged, serviced and repaired through eight Volvo centres Avonmouth, Coventry, Darlington, Enfield, Glasgow, Hayes, Milton Keynes and Washington. Nissan operators can also use Volvo's service and repair centres at Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Nissan MD Gary Frigo says:"Nissan is focusing on its Global LCV strategy. The addition of the Volvo Truck and Bus Centres signifies our dedication and commitment to the CV business and our real intention to grow our light CV volume dramatically between now and 2010." Mark Lovett, Nissan's sales and marketing manager for commercial vehicles, believes Volvo Trucks offers real value and strength to its own CV dealer network.

-It has an excellent understanding of the needs and demands of CV operators," he adds. "It will give Interstar and Cabstar customers immediate reassurance and confidence in their purchase decisions."

The Volvo outlets will also handle partexchange, building up their used portfolios in tandem with the Nissan dealer network. Partexchange vehicles will be retailed and traded. The deal, which was announced at the CV Show, is seen as crucial to improving lnterstar and Cabstar sales. •
