EA Doncaster-based haulier has had to make his seven drivers redundant after the liquidation of Hatfield Colliery left him more than £100,000 out of pocket.

Alan Jones, transport manager at L&J haulage, slams Hatfield Coal Company, the owner of Hatfield Colliery, for encouraging him to buy two new vehicles to move coal to schools and hospitals—and fairing to give him any warning about the colliery's closure on 9 August. He claims Hatfield, which went into liquidation on 13 August, owes him £68,000 in unpaid invoices and £40,000 spent on two vehicles for working out of the colliers "I face an uncertain future," he adds. "I have no work left."

A spokesperson for the Official Receiver, which has been appointed to act as liquidator for Hatfield Coal Company, says it is investigating details of the company's closure and its debts.
