working in the air-cargo sector must have the Level 4 security certificate, which is issued after the completion of a one-day course offered by security firms and some driver training schools, costing about £45. Among other
things, it teaches drivers to look out for unfamiliar faces around the airport cargo areas, "It is all about common sense," says DJ Dumabie's Gordon Denson. Airport police are also liable to check vehicles and their drivers at random, Attention to trailer security is vital. All trailers bearing consignments for export have to be security sealed when they arrive at the airport. If not, they are deemed "unknown cargo' and must be X-rayed, which can cause long delays.
