AS PART of London Transport's new marketing initiative, Mike Parker has been named as market development officer in the group marketing department. Mr Parker began his career with LT in 1970 as a management trainee, and first joined the marketing section in 1973. In his new position he will be responsible for the promotion of greater bus use, particularly in off-peak periods.

Peter Underhill has moved on to become director and general manager of the Courier Express division of Security Express Ltd, a De La Rue company. Mr Underhill's transport experience began in 1975 when he was appointed general manager, De La Rue Transportadorade Valores, Colombia. Three years later he returned to the UK as sales manager of Commercial CIT Division of Security Express, and last year he became sales and marketing manager of the CIT Division of that company. A new company, Tor Lloyd Ltd, has been formed as the UK general agency for the services of Tor Lloyd AB of Sweden and Alan Sinclair has been named as managing director of the new company. He was previously a director of Tor Line Ltd.

Southfields of Loughborough have made Michael Smith their fleet sales manager for the TIR tilt division. Mr Smith was previously southern regional manager for Gilflex Rentals for six years.

Duple Coachbuilders Ltd have appointed Michael Johnson as financial director and company secretary. He was previously financial director of Stanley Tools Ltd. Mr Johnson replaces Ronald Richards who remains on the Duple Coachbuilders Board as a nonexecutive director. Mr Richards will now concentrate on the affairs of Duple International Ltd, of which he is group financial director and company secretary.

John Birch, after his long service to the coach and bus industry, has stepped down from active trade association work after almost 50 years' involvement with the industry. He has been a member of the Passenger Vehicle Operators' Association and the Coach and Independent Bus Sector since 1946.
