Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

IN becoming Lorry Driver of the Year .1 for 1962, Cpl. D. M. Readman, of R.A.F. Gaydon, was the first man ever to retain the tide for a second term; to judge from his performance at Coventry last May he has lost none of his skill, and it is by no means impossible that this Sunday will see him making it three in a row. But he won't find it easy; last year's runner-up, J. C. Martindale, of Pease Transport/Tate and Lyle, is a consistent finalist who is competing again this year and, as well as many familiar haulage and C-licence names in this year's entry list, Readman's Services opponents include several who have had outright wins at the 1963 eliminators.

At Coventry

The National Final is being held on Sunday at the " works" of StandardTriumph international, Which lies on the Coventry by-pass, to the south-west of the city—and Mr. Stanley Markland the company's managing director and Leyland's deputy managing director, will present the prizes.

As before, the final will be in two parts. At 9 a.m. competitors will start the manoeuvrability tests in their own vehicles in their respective classes. This will decide the class champions, who during the afternoon will take part in the run-off in identical vehicles, which this year will be Leylands. The driver who loses least marks in this run-off will be the Lorry Driver of the Year, gaining The Coventry Trophy presented by B.M.C., and a silver cigarette ease. The wirming entrant gets the• Lord Rootes Si1ver Salver, the George Macaulay Memorial Award, and there Is a cash award of £50, plus £5 from the Rootes Group,

For this years final the familiar kerbparking and width-judgment tests will be employed and the snooker test—used only at last year's final—is being revived. The " new " test, which will join kerb parking and width judgment as the th for next year's eliminating contests—if revised loading-bay manceuvre. As drawing (test 4) shows, the bay, wh in 1962 was at right angles to the rc and during this year has been para with the road, is now to be at an an, The line BX is variable according to size of vehicle_ As well as the four tests—in wh time will be a factor—drivers' [cacti times may be tested separately by pedal-operated meter, and the times in calculation of results.

As in 1962, there will not be a safe-r competition this year.
