JACK RICHARDS & SONS has expanded its fleet with two shortwheelbase lorries to meet demand for pallet deliveries in urban areas.

The Norfolk logistics firm and Palletways member has opted for two bespoke city lorries based on a 7.5-tonne DAF LF unit with a 15-tonne GVW, skinny body and improved turning circle. The vehicles are fitted with reversing cameras and smaller wheels (19.5inch rim diameter) than standard to improve cab access for drivers. Each have rear air suspension and canter lever tail lifts. Although the cost of one of the bespoke vehicles is equivalent to one 18-tonne lorry, their pallet capacity – due to reduced body length – has been cut over a standard 18-tonne vehicle from 12 to 10 pallets.
