1ELFORD-BASED Rob Hughes Transport has added three trailers to its three-vehicle licence after a family dispute over the ownership of its base was settled.

When the application came before West Midland Traffic Commissioner David Dixon in April he adjourned consideration of whether to grant authority for the trailers at The Garage, Wellington Road,Telford.

The TC said he had to be satisfied that the operating centre was available for use. The land in question was partly owned by John and Philip Hughes, father and uncle to director Robert Hughes, who had given their consent to its use. But Colin Hughes, another uncle of Robert Hughes, was disputing the ownership of the land and was not prepared to give his consent for its use as an operating centre.

The TC heard the company had been at the site for nearly eight years and no action had been taken to have it evicted. He was asked to grant interim authority for the trailers while the situation was resolved.

At the April hearing the TC had also said he felt it would be wrong to grant interim authority because of the uncertainty over whether the company was in lawful occupation of the site. He gave it three months in which to produce documentary evidence to satisfy him that it was in lawful occupation on terms that would enable it to operate (CM 21 April).
