A HAULIER HAS been granted a licence for two vehicles on condition that none of his three sons take any part in his new business.

Leslie Ings resigned as a director of Fordingbridgebased Ings Transport in 1997. Earlier this year the company's licence for 14 vehicles and 12 trailers was revoked while it was being run by his three sons.

The company lost its licence in May because of maintenance problems, drivers' hours and tachograph offences, and the use of a vehicle when the licence was suspended. In addition, Western Traffic Commissioner Philip Brown disqualified the company and its three directors, Brian. Alan and Peter Ings, from holding an 0-licence for 12 months.

Leslie Ings, trading as Ings Transport, was granted interim authority to operate two vehicles on condition that his three sons would not be involved in the business. However, both he and his son Alan requested the TC to reconsider his decision with regard to this condition so that Alan could drive one vehicle and carry out maintenance.

The TC said it was difficult to envisage how Alan Ings could be considered as an individual who was suitable to carry out some of the responsibilities of an operator when he was serving a disqualification for non-compliance issues of a serious nature.

He granted Leslie legs a licence subject to the condition that none of Ings' three sons were to be involved in the business of Ings Transport, nor may they be employed in the business in any way during the period of their disqualification.
