commercial road transport committee, has accused the government of breaking its commitment to review the impact of the Working Time Directive.
"Prior to the introduction of the directive drivers were Working excessively long hours," he says. "The directive has done virtually nothing to alter that."
Williams says former liansport Minister David Jamieson assured union leaders the review would take place within 12 months of the WTD's implementation in April.
"We are now being told it will be at least 18 months," he reports. "When someone talks about 'at least' it could be any time."
A spokesman for the Department forTransport says:"We want to see how the system works and don't want to rush to judgement."
