A NEW five-speed gearbox is rlannounced by the Ford Motor Co., Ltd., as a production option for Thames Trader models with six-cylinder engines. The casing is of cast iron and has two S.A.E./S.M.M.T. six-bolt power take-off windows, The mainshaft gears for the indirect synchromesh ratios rotate on the mainshaft itself, while those for first and second gears are splined. The layshaft gears for first, second and reverse speeds are integral, the remainder being keyed.

Ball bearings are used for clutch shaft, rear mainshaft and rear layshaft bearings. The front of the layshaft and the mainshaft front spigot are supported in needle rollers. The oil capacity is nine pints.
