Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The trials of vehicles equipped with gas-producer plant and running on producer gas, which have been promoted by the Automobile Clubs of France and Belgium with the support of the French and Belgian Governments, have been running under military observation since September 18th, and it is intended that they shall conclude on the 11th inst.

The distance covered in the itinerary through Brussels down to Alsace-Lorraine and back to Paris will be about 2,000 kilometres.

These trials are,, of course, essentially of interest to the military and Colonial authorities, and it is highly probable that the every-day user of commercial vehicles will not materially benefit from them, although certain points may emerge which can be turned to advantage by the user of ordinary commercial vehicles.

The vehicles are using as the raw fuel for their gas producers charcoal, coke or wood, and from our observations there seemed to be considerable loss of power in starting from cold, whilst there was certainly a loss of power as compared with that obtained when liquid fuel is used. No figures as to consumption, cost, time lost or power will be available until a report is issued by the promoting clubs. When the material is available we propose to review it.

In our last issue we illustrated five of the competing vehicles with their gasproducer outfits. We have heard it suggested that the outfits will not be sold apart from the lorries.
