TAYMIX HAS been given another opportunity to allay the doubts of the Western Traffic Commissioner, Sarah Bell, and prove that it is up to scratch.

The animal feed distribution firm, together with its subsidiary company Translact, has been handed an official warning by Bell, who insists that the directors and transport operators must work harder to improve vehicle maintenance.

Vasa inspections at the firm's Dorset site in April and August revealed a range of faults, including items such as loose wheelnuts and roller brake testing with unloaded trucks.

At the Bristol hearing on 28 October, Vasa vehicle examiner Ray Smith said that when he paid another visit to the firm in September, the company had fully obliged with his recommendations.

Speaking to director and transport manager Christopher Taylor, second transport manager Peter Noyce and workshop manager Tyrone Bevan, the TC said: "I have concerns about the transport operators, but there have been vast improvements."

A formal warning was issued to the three men, which will be reviewed in January 2009.

Although undertakings still need to be finned up, the TC told the trio that they would all have to sit a two-day refresher CPC or similar course as part of the agreement Earlier in the day, three of the group's drivers were told they may have to wait until 11 November before the TC decided whether to suspend their HGV licences for up to 12 months.
