Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AROUND 100 drivers in Scotland are gearing up for industrial action after failing to reach an agreement with McPherson of Aberlour over a pay deal.

The firm would not agree with the national campaign by union Unite for £12 per hour for all HGV drivers. Drivers will now be balloted on 10 November over how they want to proceed.

The union claims drivers at the firm are currently being paid £8.48. Regional industrial officer Tommy Campbell says: "We expect there will be a substantial majority vote for industrial action; and this will send a clear message to their employer that it's time to end low pay for professional lorry drivers."

A spokeswoman for McPherson says a downturn in the economy has to be taken into account when putting together an offer. She says: "We look forward to sitting down with the union to discuss an equitable solution."
