A BID FOR A licence by a successor firm to Maryport-based Nationwide Logistics (UK) has been adjourned after the Deputy Traffic Commissioner requested further financial evidence and proof the nominated transport manager had a CPC, and asked for the previous transport manager to appear before him.

The company, trading as R&H Haulage, was seeking a new licence for 10 vehicles and 15 trailers before North Western DTC Mark Hinchliffe. It had been operating under interim authority since January 2008.

In December 2007,TC Beverley Bell revoked the licence of R&H Haulage Ltd and disqualified the company director, Tony Bragg, from holding or obtaining an 0licence for five years. She decreed that any future application that involved Velma Hinckson, a director of the new firm, be decided by public inquiry.

For the company, Graham Quigley said Hinckson had seen a business opening and invested £100,000 in R&H Haulage Ltd.

There was a condition on the interim licence that if Bragg was employed, it would only be as a driver or for vehicle maintenance.

Vehicle examiner Matthew Grieve said that an S-marked immediate prohibition had been issued during an investigation in March. He found safety inspection records were not completed and driver checks seemed ineffective. Traffic examiner Keith Smith said that a vehicle given an immediate prohibition in April was specified on both the company's licence and a licence held by then transport manager Stephen Moffatt, trading as Mofftrans.

When he visited the firm, Bragg was working in the office. He was told a David Jefferson had been appointed as transport manager.

Hinckson said she was the sole shareholder in Nationwide and Bragg's main function was driving and maintenance. Jefferson had lost his CPC and they were seeking to obtain a duplicate.

The DTC said much of what Moffatt said in a written statement was challenged by the company.
