A camera sends images of number plates to a computer, The computer holds databases of registration numbers, such as HGVs not shown on an 0-licence, or those not having appropriate test certificates. An alarm Is sounded if there is a link between the two and is passed on to the Vasa team. The cameras can be placed on bridges or at the roadside and it is hoped they will reduce the number of legitimate and compliant operators having to be pulled over.
