• A Wolverhampton tipper operator who had his licence cut from four vehicles to three 12 months ago, after one of his vehicles was found to have defective brakes following an accident (CM 17-23 Oct 1996) was described as one of the Traffic Area's success stories by West Midland Traffic Commissioner John Mervyn Pugh.
Balvinder Singh, trading as GSD Haulage, was seeking to change his operating centre and increase the authorisation on his licence to seven vehicles and four trailers at a Birmingham public Enquiry Mervyn Pugh said Singh's vehicles had not collected any prohibitions since the previous public inquiry.
In reply to the Commissioner, Singh said he felt that he could safely maintain seven vehicles but it would not be a problem if he was only granted five vehicles, Increasing the authorisation to five vehicles and four trailers, and granting the change of operating centre, Mervyn Pugh said it was a shame that he had needed to reduce the licence on the last occasion.
Singh said he had made a mistake in trusting the person who sold him the vehicle which was involved in the accident.
