The agreement between Volvo and Mitsubishi covers three key areas: • From the beginning of next year Volvo dealers in Italy, France and Britain will sell Mitsubishi-badged Canters from 3.5-7.5 tonnes. The vehicles will be supplied by Mitsubishi Trucks Europe's assembly plant in Portugal.
• Volvo and Mitsubishi will conduct a feasibility study with the aim of developing and manufacturing mediumduty trucks between 7.5-18 tonnes GVW, "while retaining their own brand profiles". Sales will be handled by each company's distributor network; the Volvo version will only be sold in Europe.
• Volvo will look at supplying components such as gearboxes and rear axles for use in Mitsubishi heavy-duty trucks.
CANTER SPECS: WHAT'S ON OFFER?
Volvo Trucks Creat Britain says: Were not divulging specs until we officially launch the product in the New Year." But it's highly likely that Canter models will be very similar, if not identical, to those already sold in the North of Ireland.

Canter HD 6.0-tormer • Engine: OHV charged-cooled 3.9-litre direct-injection diesel rated at 1344/370Nm.
• Gearbox Five-speed synchro.
• Cab: Forward-control tilt available in day and crew-cab versions.
• Suspension: Leaf springs with dampers.
• Wheelbase options: 2.75, 3.35. and 3,76m.
• Day cab kerbweight 2.75m wheelbase, 2,270kg; 3.35rn wheelbase, 2,310kg; 3.76m wheelbase 1,330kg.
Canter HD 7.5 -tomer* • Engine: OHV charge-cooled 3.9-litre direct-injection diesel rated at 131hp/370Nm.
• Gearboy Five-speed synchro.
• Cab: Forward-control tilt available in day and crew-cab versions.
• Suspension: Leaf springs with dampers.
*Wheelbase options: 235. 3.35, and 3.76m.
*7,5-tanners have the same basic spec as the sig-tonner but with bigger wheels and tyres and slightly higher kerhwedts. CM understands that Volvo will only offer 3.5 and 7.5-tonners.
