Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

by Brian Weatherley • Less than a month after ERF announced that it is to fit the American-made Detroit Diesel 60 Series in its EC range, Sandbach rival Foden is offering the mid-range Caterpillar 3126 engine in its 3000 Series trucks.

The electronically controlled 7.6-litre straightsix, which was unveiled at TipCon earlier this year, will be available in two power ratings (see box). According to Foden it will be "ideally suited" to rigid applications up to 26 tonnes, including lightweight mixers and tippers as well as lightweight 3000 Series tractors.

Foden is the first European truck manufacturer to fit the 3126. ERF has confirmed its interest in the yellow engine but says it will wait for the three-valve version which should be available soon (CM 11-17 September).

The 3126 features Cat's HEUI fuel system with hydraulically actuated electronically controlled unit injectors. The HEUI control module can collect engine performance data and display it to the driver on an optional unit.

Cat 3126 engines will be offered with a two-year warran ty; five-year extended coverage is available at an extra charge.

• Foden is to fit the 12-litre Caterpillar C12 in its 4000 Series next year—power ratings have yet to be decided.
