haulier is planning to paint a message on the cab of his ERF EC14 to warn other hauliers not to follow his example and buy the "worst vehicle I have ever had".

Alan Trotter, managing director of Poole-based AET Transport, says his EC14 has suffered 44 faults since he bought it new three years ago. Trotter intends to tell his signwriter to highlight all the faults in red lettering on the cab, below a message reading: "Beware potential buyers".

The alleged problems include two faulty back axles, doors cracking in half, electric win dows not working and the driver's seat collapsing. AET services the EC14 in-house.

"I like to buy British but I will never buy ERF again," says Trotter.

He is angered by what he describes as a lack of interest shown in his problems at ERF. However, he does concede ERF has visited his firm and extended the warranty on the vehicle.

A spokesman for ERF says he is aware of Trotter's problems and that the matter is being fully investigated.

"We are very concerned and taking the matter very seriously." he says. "We are currently investigating Mr Trotter's problems and trying to reach a satisfactory solution."

He adds that he has not heard of any similar problems with the EC14.
