Brief Details of the Results of the Past Year's Working of a Large Fleet of Motorbuses.

THEHE tramsways department of the Blackpool Corporatiou hasjust issued its annual report for the year ended March 31st, dealing with the

municipal passenger transport services of the town. The Blackpool Corporation owns a fleet of 58 motorbuses, its composition being as follows :-24 Tilling-Stevens--1 50-seater (petrolelectric), 8 30-seaters, 13 28-seaters (petrol-electric), 2 20-seaters (petrolelectric) ; 19 Leyland-2 40-seaters, 4 35-seaters, 4 32-seaters, 3 30-seaters, 6 25-seaters; 8 Guy-1 54-seater, 1 40seater, 6 30-seaters (runabouts) ; 4 S. D. Freighter 24-seaters (runabouts); 2 Karrier-1 54-seater, 1 40-seater; 1 Vulcan 14-seater.

In the year under review the total traffic income from the operation of the buses was £56,372 and working expenses totalled £44,611, these amounts being equivalent to an average of 11.03d. and 8.73d. per bus-mile respectively. The gross profit on the buses was thus £11,761, but loan charges account for £10,689, leaving a net profit of £1,072, this being transferred to the tramways account.

Financial results for the working of both buses and trams can be summarized as follow :—Total income £3'70,700, working expenses £263,170, leaving a gross profit of £107,530. To this amount has to be added £3,898 for bank interest and £7,737 brought forward from the previous year, giving a disposable total of £119,165. After meeting certain charges, including interest, sinking fund, reserve, etc., a sum of £3,182 is left to be carried forward. During the past year the motorbuses travelled 1,225,946 miles and carried 8,664.743 passengers.
