ago (certainly well into the mid-60s), when photography wasn't as developed as it is in these digital days, truck and car manufacturers frequently turned to that strange breed of illustrator known as 'the commercial artist' to portray their products in things like brochures, posters and, of course, adverts too.
The commercial artist offered plenty of advantages over photography... not least savings on the cost of expensive location work, or the photoshoot being hit by bad weather and so on.
In fact, thanks to the commercial artist, the product could be made to look absolutely perfect — which in those pre-PhotoShop days it couldn't in a photo.
