Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

and is good at what it's been designed to do, which is to maximise fuel economy. That said, A van drivers are traditionally running against time and tend to drive with gusto, and to get the best out of the ECOnetic, one has to drive carefully and patiently.

But that doesn't mean that it's slow and lethargic; on the contrary, the 114hp engine is powerful with an adequate spread of torque to haul its 2,840kg mass around, but thrashing it defeats the point of the ECOnetic.

Looking at the spec sheet of the ECOnetic and regular Transit side by side, there's very Little to separate the two apart from COz emissions and fuel consumption. But even they are in the same ballpark: the frugal variant boasting 189g/km, with the not-so-frugal model emitting 213g/km.

So where's the tipping point?

Certain businesses might not be non-plussed with the ECOnetic's fuel consumption, instead they might favour the ECOnetic badge and the marketing potential it could provide.

Either way, the ECOnetic is worth a look as it can be a regular Transit if needs be, or if you'd prefer to drive it more sedately, then you'll be rewarded at the fuel pumps.
