A TALLY of 11 offences, including using a vehicle without an 0-licence or tachograph, has cost a Derbyshire tipperman £1,043 in fines and costs.
Ashley Bates of Whaley Bridge pleaded guilty to the offences when he appeared before the High Peak magistrates. He was charged with using the vehicle without an 0-licence, tachograph or test certificate, and with using an 0-licence identity disc with intent to deceive.
Jon Cooper, prosecuting, said the offences came to light when Bates was stopped by the police while driving the vehicle on the A624 last August.
For Bates, John Bunting said the truck, worth £4,700, had been impounded. Bates had set up in business with his father and brother at the beginning of 2003. They had acquired the vehicle, which required an 0-licence and a tachograph. It was not legal to go on the road but Bates had driven it after a customer had asked him to deliver a load of stone.
Fining Bates £1,000 with £43 costs, District Judge John Friel said he regarded this as an attempt to run a business on the cheap, avoiding all the traffic regulations, both financial and with regard to the safety of the vehicle. NO RETURN
A vehicle caught on the road without an 0-licence, tacho or MoT is a prime candidate for confiscation.
