• by David Craik Cheshire-based air-freight haulier Plane Trucking has gone into voluntary liquidation with the loss of 150 lobs.

The directors of the company, which ran 70 trailers with depots in Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow, took the decision to cease trading on 27 April after its Dutch holding company, Netherlands-based Rutges Transport Group, went into administration.

Jason Aston from liquidators Levy Gee says a group creditors' meeting will be held on 13 May. Debt levels have yet to be fully assessed, he adds, but there has been some interest shown in the business from other parties" since the liquidation was announced.

Plane Trucking's European transport planner Donald Roy outlined the problems inherent in the air-freight business when he appeared in a CM feature (CM 9-15 Jan 1997): 'Trucks can sit around for hours on end at Heathrow Airport waiting to collect air-freight for onward delivery by road. Sometimes you will get your cargo in two hours but sometimes it can take half a day—it varies enormously."
