WE regret to announce the death of VV SIR J. FREDERICK HEATON, who was chairman and managing director of Thomas Tilling, Ltd. He was 68. He joined the Tilling concern as accountant in 1915 and during his lifetime gained control of a large number of bus under

takings. He was knighted in 1942. Only a few months before his death he negotiated the sale of the Tilling group to the British Transport Commission for the sum of £24,800,000.

Sir Frederick was of a reserved disposition and was seldom seen at public functions. He avoided all personal publicity. Apart from his many business activities, he was interested in farming.
