Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A NEW and interesting type or ball joint, known as the Faudi, is now being used on certain German vehicles.

The housing is made of mild steel, provided with a stout shank turned with a number of circular flanges, on to which the tube of the connection may be shrunk or swaged. The ball pin is of the ordinary type with a taper shank and no abrupt changes in diameter.

The chief novelty of the construction lies in the ball holder, which consists of two socket lines made of chrome nickel steel, case-hardened and ground. The upper ring is large enough to pass the shank of the ball pin and is a press fit into the steel housing. The lower socket ring is threaded for adjustment, and

when the correct "adjustment has been made it is held in position by a screwed plug, which itself is locked by a tongued washer and a number of steel balls carried in recesses in the plug, and pressed into engagement with holes in the locking washer by means of small coil springs.

The outer end of the ball housing forms the fixed portion of a grease cup) and over this is screwed a brass cap with a spring locking device.

In order to prevent the entry of dirt and water a spherically shaped protector, 5i/flaw, to that type used on certain cardan joints, is slipped over the shank of the ball pin so that it makes a rubbing joint with the ball housing.
