• The Oswestry haulage family who went out of business following a fatal accident are back on the road.
R&J Transport., a company formed by the daughter and sonin-law of Geoffrey Ilurdsman, has won authority to operate five vehicles and 10 trailers from the former base of WT Ifurdsman & Sons at St Martins near Oswestry.
Hurdsman ceased trading after its licence was suspended last November following the accident in June 1994 when a drawbar trailer came adrift on the A6 in Derbyshire, smashing into an oncoming tipper and killing its driver. The company was subsequently prosecuted for using a dangerous vehicle but the case collapsed,
The directors of R&J Transport are Sarah Jane McGowan and her husband Russell. The company's CPC holder is Geoffrey Hurdsman.
When the company's application came before West Midlands Deputy Traffic Commissioner Roger Seymour he said the public inquiry exclusively related to concerns he had about the company's finance. He granted interim authority pending guarantees which he required from the company's bank within 28 days.
