Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Misfires, power loss, fuel starvation and clogged fuel filters caused by a spaghetti-like substance in diesel fuel are becoming more commonplace, according to filter specialist Separ.

The cause is apparently microbiological contamination which multiplies in the fuel and often needs expensive steam cleaning to shift it. In the worst cases permanent damage to fuel injectors, pumps and cylinder heads can result.

Until now the common approach for dealing with this contamination has been to use a biocide additive. Now Separ's new FUELmag decontamination unit is claimed to provide a safe and cost-effective alternative to the use of chemicals.

Diesel is passed over strong magnets which are said to disorientate and break down the cellular structures to prevent the

potentially damaging clumping. The unit is selfcleaning and maintenance free and there are no electrical connections or moving parts.

Installation is straightforward and the Fuel mag is available in sizes to suit all diesel engines up to 3,500hp.
