'EAKINS have released more Wails of its new Q14 family of rngines, the first of which is :cheduled for production in 1985.
It will be a turbocharged inne six cylinder unit which, in arms of cubic capacity, will fit in letween the existing 6.354 and he V8 ranges.
Although its main targets are he farm machinery and lorry narkets (including classes 6 and in the USA) this new engine, lesignated the 6.440, will be vailable for all Perkins applicaon areas.
It will be the first time that the 'erkins Squish Lip Combustion ystem has been available for ommercial vehicle application. The engine is designed to be apable of use both in frameless 'actors with a stress carrying ump and in other applications equiring conventional sumps. The 014 family will consist of -Kee, four, five and six cylinder ngines covering the 60 to 170 W (80 to 228bhp) power sector nd will be adaptable for difarent uses and installations.
The six-cylinder version has a apacity of 7.2 litres (440 cu in) nd a maximum rated speed of 600 rpm keeping the mean pis3n speed down to 11.3m/sec 2,235 ft/min).
