Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• To meet the need for a high-capacity van with a maximum gross vehicle weight of 3.5 tons (thus not requiring an licence), Rootes has introduced the Commer KC25. Mechanically, this new model is similar to the KC30 except for lighter rear suspension and 7.00-16, 10-ply tyres instead of 12-ply. It has a payload capacity of about 25cwt in its 350 cu.ft. body.

The KC25 is available with either a 56 bhp 2.26-litre petrol engine or 63 bhp 3.3-litre diesel and a four-speed synchromesh gearbox and vacuum/hydraulic brakes are standard. The price has been set at the same level as the equivalent KC30 models and ex works price of the factory-built van is £1,020. Chassis/cab and chassis/front end versions cost £880 and £775 respectively.

A special body for the KC25 has been developed by Coachwork Conversions Ltd. This is designated the Maxivan and is constructed of light-alloy with a 400 cu.ft. interior capacity.

Depending on the power unit specified, payload on the Maxivan can be up to 34cwt. It is based on the KC25 chassis/

front end and the main difference from the standard body is interior height, which is 6ft. 3in.; a roller shutter is standard for the 5ft. 2in. by 5ft. 6in. rear opening. The body consists of an alloy framework with a Thames ChassisPly floor with panelling in 19 swg lightalloy. The roof is a one-piece full-width reinforced-plastics panel and four pairs of timber tic rails on the interior sides are standard equipment. There are alternative rear openings and double doors can be fitted.

Kerb weight of the Maxivan with petrol engine is 1.77 tons which increases to 1.88 tons when the diesel engine is specified. The conversion price of £429 includes delivery within the UK mainland and one of the advantages of the use of a standardized body is that all body panels are available as spare parts from Coachwork Conversions on a 24hr delivery basis.

Orders totalling £400,000 have already been taken—including 243 Maxivans for Hertz.
