Martin Lane ransport had been called to an inquiry in tanchester in connection with a Carrier's ence application for a new A licence for x artics to be based at Ormskirk; the revious base had been Penrith. The LA !cided that the A-licence application mold be withdrawn and republished in rder to incorporate a change in the normal ser. When the Operator's licence aplication was about to be heard it was pinted out to the LA that the applicant did at hold a Carrier's licence in the North iestern traffic area.

Mr A. T. Kennedy, for Martin Lane ransport, said that Yorkshire and ancashire had been omitted from the Drina' user published through a mistake by le applicant. The company had been Operating in Penrith but required to move to Burscough, near Ormskirk, for maintenance purposes.

Mr J. A. Backhouse, for the three objectors, said that the case could not be continued as the normal user had not been published in the terms in which it was required.

In respect of the Operator's licence, the LA said that as Martin Lane Transport did not hold a Carrier's licence in the North Western traffic area it seemed that the operator's application should be made to the

Northern LA.

Mr J. S. Hodgson, proprietor of Martin Lane Transport, told the LA that he had originally been told by the Northern LA's office to apply for an Operator's licence in the North Western traffic area. He had since been told by the same office that he should have a licence in the northern area.

The LA said that an interim licence would be granted by either himself or the Northern LA.

The evidence of Mr R. Rimmer, vehicle examiner in the North Western traffic area, was heard and the ease was then adjourned. Mr Rimmer said that he had carried out an inspection in February 1970. He had issued three immediate prohibitions and one delayed. Maintenance facilities were not suitable and there was room for improvement in the keeping of records. He said that the oldest of the vehicles were 1967 models while the others were 1969.

The LA said that it sounded as if these vehicles were very badly maintained.
