Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The use of lorry-mounted lifting equipment is increasing rapidly as operators become aware of the considerable savings in labour costs for loading and unloading which results from investment in this type of equipment.

Examples of such equipment used for different loads have been featured in this column in recent weeks and I have just learned of another application.

Herbert-BSA Ltd, of Coventry, is using a model 303 Telehoist Foco loader on a Dodge platform truck for loading and unloading valuable machine tools, The Foco loader, with wide spread support legs, gives stability and accurate control valves ensure precise lifting and manoeuvring operations.

The hydraulic articulation and double extension to the jib allow the operator to place the load exactly where he wants it on the platform, even tight against the headboard. The support legs are also fully hydraulic. Dual controls enable the loader to be controlled from either side of the vehicle so the load is never out of the operator's sight.

The Foco loader supplied to Herberts has a lifting capacity of 7,700Ib. at 5ft. 5in. radius and can handle loads of 1,750Ib. at a full 20ft, range from the pillar. The loader is offset to the left side of the vehicle to obtain the full benefit of this performance.
