Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

KISMET LTD. Fenlake Works,

ALL the Jet steam cleaners manufactured by Kismet are mobile units. There are five models, all paraffin fired, and are fitted with Duplex reciprocating pumps, 0,75 h.p. capacitor start electric motors, adjustable pressure fuel regulators, generating coiLs made from cold-drawn steel tube and special steam hose-30 ft. or 25 ft. long—with detachable couplings. A cleaning gun assembly with three nozzles-0.25 in. round, 2 in. flat and 4 in. flat is provided with each machine.

The main differences between the machines is in the capacity of the water, solution and paraffin tanks and the external appearance. The Minicleaner Industrial model is mounted on three wheels and has all working parts exposed. Similar to this model is the Minicleaner Agricultural model except that the equipment is mounted transversely on a two-wheel trailer. The Ever Ready Universal and Industrial models are both mounted on three wheels but are totally enclosed. These four models are the ones most applicable to commercial vehicle users, two others made being the Ever Ready Farmers' model, mounted on a two-wheeled trailer, and the Ever Ready Monster model, designed for heavy industrial users and mounted on four wheels.

The Minicleaner has a water tank capacity of 36 gal., a solution tank capacity of 5 gal. and a paraffin capacity of 6.25 gal. The capacity of the tanks on the Ever Ready Universal and Industrial models are the same, being 5.5 gal water. 13 gal, solution,

and 13 gal. paraffin. Throughputs are 60 gal. per hour at 80.p.s.i. for the Minicleaner, 90 gal, per hour at 100 p.s.i. for the Ever Ready Universal and 60 gal. per hour at 100 p.sa. for the Ever Ready Industrial. The Jet cleaners produce steam with

a core of superhot cleaning solution within 90 seconds of switching on from cold. This means that the machines need only, be switched on when steam is required and there is no waste in having the machine burning paraffin when it is not in use.

STEWA1RTS CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT LTD.

Donley Row, Florley, Surrey.

AS Hoover is to vacuum cleaners so is the name Jenny to steam cleaners. Hypressure Jenny is said to be the first steam cleaner invented in 1927 by Frank W. Offeldt of America—and whether the generic name comes from this or is a derivation of " generator " is open to argument, It is likely, of course, that Offeldt gave the name Jenny to his invention because it was a steam generator. Hypressure Jenny steam cleaners are manufactured by Steam Cleaners Homestead Valve Co. of America and recently Stewarts Construction Equipment took on the sole agency in the U.K. There is a range of eight machines which are obtainable in up to 40 variations.

The range of models and variations covers a wide variety of requirements but a model recommended for use on commercial vehicles is the Jenny 750. This is available as a static or mobile unit and can be oil fired or gas fired powered by an electric motor, or oil fired with a small petrol engine supplying the power. Tank capacities are 12 gal. solution-24 gal, solution on the gas-fired models—and 12 gal. fuel. Overall dimensions are about 4 ft. by lit, 10 in. by 3 ft. flit.

Output is 84 gal, per hour at a pressure of 85 to 120 psi, and three larger models to a similar design and with similar options give outputs of up to 210 gat. per hour at a pressure of 250 psi. The two larger of these can be trailer Mounted. On all the machines there is a tiase and washing cycle in addition to full steam cleaning in which the water is at a relatively low temperature increase and here the throughput goes up to 400 gal. per hour at up to 350p.s.i.

A fairly new machine is the Multi Job Washer, which can be used for vehicle washing and degreasing and is available as a static or mobile unit, Water is heated by a 6 kW electric heating element and the pump is driven by an electric motor. For de-greasing, the water input temperature is raised by 100°F. and the output pressure is 300 p.s.i. with a rate of 25 gal. per hour. On the rinse and wash cycle the temperature rises 25°F, and output pressure is 250 p.s.i. at a flow of 90 gal per hour.

TRIANGLE PRODUCTS LTD.

Hyde,

an. Manchester. ffiHE Triangle Mk. II steam cleaner made I by this concern is a compact, fullyenclosed unit measuring 5 ft. 3 in. long by 2 ft. 4 in. wide by 2 ft. 10 in. high and mounted on three wheels. A plunger-type pump is used driven by an electric motor and this delivers steam at 100 p.s.i. at a rate of 30 gal. per hour.

Heating is by paraffin or gas oil and within 1.5 min, of switching on, the pressure of the steam at the gun is 25 p.s.i., the full pressure of 100 p.s.i. being reached within 5 min. Fuel is used at the rate of 1.67 ga1, per hour and, operating on good-quality paraffin, running costs are said to average 4s. 6d. per hour, including detergents and electricity. The Handy Dandy cleaner is driven by an 0,33 h.p. electric motor and water from mains supply is pumped by a slow-speed diaphragm pump and heated by art airatomizing paraffin burner. Output is 80 gal. of wet steam per hour at a working pressure of between 80 and 120 p.s.i. Overall dimensions are 2 ft I tin, long by 1 ft 7 in. wide by 4 ft. 5 in, high and when mounted on castors the unit costs £235 and when on three rubber-tyred wheels, £247 10s. In the latter form, the cleaner can be powered by a petrol engine when the price is £275. •

Output of the Universal steam cleaner is 120 gal, of wet steam per hour at a pressure of between 80 and 120 p.s.i. The pumping and heating systems are similar to the Handy Dandy but the drive is from a 0-5 h.p. electric motor or a petrol engine. Overall dimensions are 3 ft. 9 in. long by 1 ft. 9 in. wide by 3 ft. 7 in, high and when mounted on castors and incorporating electric-motor drive the price is £390. A petrol-engine driven version costs £425 and optional extras are two-gun operation which adds £25, mounting on three wheels, £25, and mounting on a two-wheel trailer, £125.
