N'proposals affecting the size and weight of goods vehicles will, I understand, be coming from the Ministry of Transport in the next month or two. This is a surprise. Following the many comments from operators and manufacturers over the or:ginal proposals last year, it was believed that nothing new would be coming out before next August.
The new proposals, which will be circulated for further comment, will carry modifications designed as far as possible to meet the divergent views put forward last year. No doubt they have been hustled up to try to end delays which have been frustrating operators (who have been hes:tating over new orders) and manufacturers (who are waiting to know the form).
I understand that the final details of the revised proposals are not yet completely settled. But the definite intention is to get them in circulation as quickly as possible.
It is almost certain, however, that the relevant Construction and Use Regulations cannot be passed during the life of the present Parliament.
