From A Special Correspondent

THE news, published last week, that a 4.5-in.-diameter starter is now available from Bosch Ltd. in this country, has been received "with very great interest" by the highways and vehicles committee of the Road Haulage Association, I was told this week. In fact, I understand, some Bosch starters are already in use in Britain and the committee would be interested to learn of the experience of operators with these units. It has not proved possible for starters to be loaned for test by the R.H.A.

• Following the meeting with the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders on January 20 (after which the R.H.A. stated that it had received no promise of immediate improvement in electrical equipment to meet the specific corn c8 plaints of hauliers) the Association's highways and vehicles committee has, I learn, approached chassis manufacturers direct. The manufacturers have been told individually of the Association's view of some items of electrical equipment and have been asked for an assurance that they are interested in ensuring that suitable and reliable electrical units are fitted on their own products.

The response from manufacturers has, I understand, been very good and the committee is pleased at the reassurances it is receiving.

Mr. Squibb to Geddes THE president of the Transport Tribunal, Mr. G. D. Squibb. Q.C.. is due to give evidence today, Friday, to the Geddes Committee inquiring into carriers' licensing.
