ACLERK who stole £6 8s. 8d. belonging to his employers, Barton Transport, Ltd., was stated at Melton Mowbray to be in a position of trust, handling between £600 and £700 a week, although his net wages were only £9, " He was a conscientious employee who worked a considerable number of week-ends but was not paid overtime," said Mr. P. M. Cox, defending. "When he took the money it was to pay two months' hire purchase arrears and he had every intention of repaying it."
The clerk, Albert Bernard Pick, Stavely Road, Melton Mowbray, admitted pocketing cash handed over by a conductor and was fined £5 with £4 4s. advocate's fee. He was given time to pay. It was stated that he had lost his job through the offence, but had made restitution to the company.
