works brigade 1, entered for the tournament held on Whit-Monday by the Surrey District of the National Fire Brigades' Association, and won eight out of the nine events in which they competed. In the ninth event the Dennis brigade secured second place. The trophies won included the Brooker Challenge Shield for the best aggregate performance of the day.
With 13 rivals in the competition for the Dewar Challenge Cup, the Dennis team secured a lead of 4.* secs, over the runners-up.
The tournament was open to full-time and part-time brigades.
