• Tarmac has rejected claims that it has dumped a dozen tipper operators after putting its Hatton East coating plant in Skipton up for sale.
One of the owner-drivers says: "Normally, we do two or three loads a day, but there's been virtually no work since potential purchasers started coming round a month ago."
However, a spokeswoman for Tarmac blames a slump in demand for asphalt products. "The company is now focusing on supplying current demand from the most economic sources," she says. "We are trying to utilise our hauliers, wherever possible, at other sites in the area."
