Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Edward Roderick, group chief executive of Christian Salvesen, has joined the national executive board of the Freight Transport Association just three months after resigning from the Road Haulage Association board.

The move will be seen as a further setback in relations between the RHA and the FTA.

Roderick had been tipped to succeed John Bridge as RHA national chairman but resigned in protest at the "more militant approach" the organisation was taking.

He told Commercial Motor that his position on the RHA

board had become untenable after merger negotiations between the two societies broke down earlier this year. Other new appointments to the FTA board include Philip Mengel, chief executive of English Welsh & Scottish Railway; Gill Sheddick OBE, joint managing director of Norbert Dentressangle UK Wales & West; and Stuart Archbold, the chairman of Archbold Freightage.
