• Vehicle Installations has become a nationwide supplier and fitter of the Locator antitheft vehicle tracking system from Green Flag Security. The system costs £499 (ex. VAT)with an average installation charge of £125. Once activated the Locator i s said to plot the exact position of the stolen vehicle on a computerised map and the police are informed of the theft.

Money saver

• Panasonic UK has become one of the first UK companies to introduce Paragon for Windows, the latest vehicle routing and scheduling system from Paragon Software Systems. It is currently being used at Panasonic's Bracknell distribution depot and will enable the company to switch from fixed-route planning to daily scheduling, saving money on fuel, time and improved vehicle use. Panasonic's 80-strong fleet makes an average of 25 drops per trip, and the new software will enable dealers to be informed in advance of delivery times.

Security link

• The latest version of TrailerTrak, the vehicle tracing and security system from Encrypta Electronics, can now link directly into vehicle scheduling software such as Paragon. This enables fleet operators to compare actual delivery times with schedules and highlights where driver efficiency can be improved. Also from Encrypta comes the NanoLock, an electronic padlock with a display that shows when the lock was last opened. The company says says the hardened shackle lock will reduce security costs by up to 50%.

Battery saver

• Seal-N-Place is the name of a £5.25 repair kit for cracked or punctured batteries which is made in America and is being distributed in the UK by Lurmark of Cambridge. The kit, which includes an epoxy resin compound, a glass fibre patch and instruction booklet, is said to fix a damaged battery within 30 minutes.

Fjord freshener

• A range of vehicle air fresheners has been launched under the Ho Its Fjord brand name. They come in three fragrances-vanilla, pine and tropica-and cost £2.29 each.

Take the A-frame

• Midland-Grau has launched a universal A-frame for drawbar trailers up to 24 tonnes. It says UK trailer manufacturers often make their own A-frames but could save money by using its products.

Service wipes

• Service Wipes are two-ply wipers from Fort Sterling which are designed for industrial use. There are 150 embossed sheets per roll and the wipes, made from 100% recycled paper, are available in blue or white.

Forklift control

• Jungheinrich has introduced two management packages to help use fork lift truck fleets efficiently. PAL (Programmer Aided Logistics) receives information from the warehouse and stores pending tasks. Fork lift drivers receive their commands via radio or infrared data terminals in the cab.

Fleet Monitor is a truckmounted system designed to control access to trucks via a PIN and record information about their use.
