In addition, however, I also drove a minipaver which had a wheel arrangement comprising two wheels at the front and a rear wheel configuration of four wheels on two axles; the two rear wheels were chaindriven in pairs.
Could I have claimed a Class II licence in respect of the second vehicle?
AFrom the description you have given, it would appear that you could have claimed a Class II hgv licence during the
transitional period. This type of licence enables a driver to drive rigid vehicles with more than four wheels in contact with the road surface and the vehicle you have described seems to conform to this description. It is felt, however, that it would be difficult to persuade the LA to change the class of hgv licence which he has issued to you in respect of the transitional period at this late date.
If it is considered necessary by your employer to use the vehicle of this type and ask you to drive it, he might be prepared to pay for you to have a conversion course from Class III to Class II and let you pass the test set by the Department of the Environment.
