WJE regret to record the deaths of Mr. VV E. H. T. Smith and Mr. W. Donaldson Wright.

Mr, Smith for many years managed his own Nottingham road haulage firm. He was 71.

Mr. Donaldson Wright, who was over 80, died at Pocklington, Yorks. He played a leading part in the development of the National Conference of Express Carriers, now the express carriers' functional group of the Road Haulage Association. He was a 1950-51 vice-president of the Institute of Transport. A pioneer of the road transport industry, Mr. Donaldson Wright started his parcels firm, Donaldson Wright, Ltd., at Nottingham in the 1920s. His business was later merged with Carey, Davis and Thomas. Ltd., of which firm he became a director.
