AGREENIENT has been reached between Northern Roadways, Ltd., and Scottish Omnibuses, Ltd.. whereby passengers whose bookings to travel to

I.ondon by Northern Road says vehicles were cancelled, will be able to travel by the services of Scottish Omnibuses, Ltd.

The cancellations were made, as reported in "The Commercial Motor" dated June 29, until a decision has been given on the application for backing licences for duplicate vehicles. 1 his is due to be heard by the Metropolitan Licensing Authority on July 27. A total of 24 extra vehicles daily has been granted to Scottish Omnibuses for the Festival of Britain period.

!Meanwhile, Edinburgh Trades Council has written to local Members of Parliament asking that the decision of the Licensing Authorities, permitting Northern Roadways, Ltd., to operate in competition with the State-owned Scottish Omnibuses group, be brought to the notice of the Minister of Transport. This move followed the submission of a resolution by the Transport and General Workers' Union (S.M.T. branch) which was carried unanimously by the council.

The resolution stated that the council deplored the granting of a licence enabling private operators to compete with nationalized transport. A delegate of the T.G.W.U., moving the resolution, said that the Licensing Authorities' decision was a change in procedure. Any decision which had a detrimental effect on the nationalized undertaking had a detrimental effect on every person in the country.
