ONG-DISTANCE lorry drivers • want better roads in Scotland and improvements on one road in particular —the notorious AS highway which links Glasgow and Edinburgh. The Secretary of State for Scotland is to be asked to receive a deputation.

Mr. Alex Kitson, general secretary of the Scottish Horse and Motormen's Association, said that the drivers had long been campaigning for a double lane over the entire length of the AS and pedestrian bridges where necessary.

"We know that improvements are going on near the B.M.C. factory site at Bathgate and these will presumably be complete in two years, when the factory is going into production," said Mr. Kitson. "We want to see improvements made on the whole length of the road where

necessary—not piecemeal, but as part of an organized plan.

Mr. Kitson also said they want notice boards warning drivers approaching accident blaa-spots that they are nearing built-up areas. "We want big notice boards stating what lies ahead, just as they have on the motorways in England," he said.
