MR. H. H. JEFFRIES, who was formerly general works manager of the Ford Motor • Co., Ltd., has been appointed general manager of the newly established chassis manufacturing group. MR. S. REES has been appointed production manager of the chassis manufacturing division of this group.

MR. T. G. GM, deputy chief officer (organization) at British Road Services headquarters in London, has been appointed north-eastern divisional manager, succeeding MR. N. C. MCPHERSON, who has relinquished the appointment because of ill-health. In 1945 Mr. Gibb joined Currie and Co. (Newcastle), Ltd., and became assistant general manager in 1946, a director in 1947 and general manager in 1948. In 1949 he was appointed western divisional traffic officer of B.R.S., and deputy chief traffic officer (general haulage operations) at headquarters in 1952.

MR. SYDNEY T. CLARK has succeeded MR. C. ASHLEY MILLER as managing director of G. Beaton and Son, Ltd.

MR. T. E. RHODES, general manager of the Arlington Motor Co., Ltd., and MR. R. H. WILLIS, secretary and commercial manager, have joined the board.

MR. HAROLD WATKINSON, Minister Of Transport, has appointed MR. 0. F. G1NGELL and MR. S. M. A. BANISTER to be his joint principal private secretaries, and Miss K. S. DEE his assistant private secretary.

MR. A. R. M. GEDDES, a director of the Dunlop Rubber Co., Ltd., has been elected chairman of the council of the London office of the International Road Federation. Vice-chairmen are now MR. W. R. BLACK (of the A.C.V. concern), MR. F. A. C. GUEPIN (Shell), SIR WILLIAM ROOTES (Rootes Group), and MR. FRANK TAYLOR (Taylor Woodrow). Council members comprise LORD DERWENT (British Road Federation), MR. N. A. GASS (B.P.), MR. J. M. LAiNo (John Laing and Son), MR. J. S. LA TROBE-BATEMAN (Shell), MR. R. U. LAW (George WiMpey), MR. R. C. ()DAMS (I.C.I.),. MR. W. T. WILLIAMS (S.M.M.T.), and LORD WALERAN. SIR. DONALD ST. CLAIR GAINER, Chief executive, is an ex officio member.

OBITUARY

WE regret to record the deaths of MR. GEORGE LEVY, MR. L. A. POOLE, MR. D. E. HAYNEs and MR. R. P. BAILEY.

Mr. Levy, vice-chairman of George Cohen, Sons and Co., Ltd., was 71. He played an active part in the development of the 600 Group of companies.

Mr. Poole, who was 72, began his career as an apprentice with the Ricardo concern and later worked with them on the design of Tank engines during the 1914-18 war. About 1900, he was assistant to the works manager at Walthamstow of the London General Omnibus Co., and was with Karrier Motors, Ltd., as chief engineer for some years, contributing to the design of six-wheelers. Later he designed the Gifford low-loading bus. He was with the Lockheed concern for 14 years, visiting the United States and improving the Micronic filter. Latterly he was a technical writer for Leyland Motors, Ltd. He contributed numerous technical articles to The Commercial Motor:

Mr. Haynes, who was assistant safes manager of Metropotitan-CaminellWeymann, Ltd., was involved in a car accident last week and died on Saturday. He was concerned with the export side of the business and joined the company in 1946, after having been a prisoner of war in Italy. He was 37.

Mr. Bailey, who died last Friday at the age of 79, was a great figure in London haulage circles
