Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

.D EFERENCE to the margin of profit

on war work done by the company was made by Capt. Allan G. Kyle 'ben presiding at last week's annual meeting, in Leeds, of Jonas Woodhead and Sons, Ltd., the motor vehicle spring maker. After stating that, directly and indirectly, the greater part of the company's present production is for war purposes, Capt. Kyle remarked to the shareholders: "I should warn you, however, that the margin of profit allowed on such work is not large, and that, to maintain profits at the level of recent years, a very substantial turnover will have to be achieved."

Pointing out that, in addition to meeting the normal problems of management during the past year, the company had to adapt itself to changing conditions, Capt. Kyle said that, in spite of serious interruptions in the normal production programme, the company had been able, in the aggregate, to achieve a turnover which ranked as a record in its history. These interruptions, however, were not without their effect on costs, and it was for this reason that the final trading profits did not come up to expectations.
