Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Iveco is denying it plans to close of its Langley plant with the possible loss of 500 jobs.

The huge factory near Slough, labelled "Home of the Cargo", is thought to have been identified for closure as part of a rationalisation of Iveco's European plants.

Langley assembles Cargos and Super Cargos from parts brought in from other European countries—and that might be the reason it is to be earmarked for closure.

Another reason might be the huge value of the site due to its proximity to Heathrow airport. It is worth up to firn.

Transport & General Workers Union officials, already reeling from Ford's decision to close the Halewood car plant, plan to fight the move.

Regional officer Steve Hart says: "The factory has very high productivity and is making the market leading truck. It would be a scandal if it is closed."

Iveco, which has yet to formally announce its plans, says it is still carrying out a full review of its European manufacturing and only after this is completed will an announcement be made.
