NO DELAY should be allowed to the start of work on the remaining sections of the M40 Midlands-London route, British Road Federation Midlands regional secretary Christopher Milner said last weekend. • He told an Oxford Polytechnic debate on the motorway that 50 towns and villages would benefit from the road being built, and said that trade and industry throughout England would gain a safer, faster link across the country.
M42 Support Group chairman Lewis Stretch said that the Government should fix an early date for a public inquiry into the project, and he urged it to beware of ploys which opponents of the scheme might use to try to delay the start.
