THE NORTHERN LA, Mr B. J. Foster, granted an 0-licence to expire on December 31 for eight vehicles and eight trailers to Shelton Hurst Shipping Ltd, Darlington, on Monday. The hearing had been adjourned.

The LA said he was particularly concerned about the lack of knowledge of the Road Traffic Act, or alternatively his way of getting round it, by Mr Rupert H It would be necessary to keep an eye on the company's operation, said Mr Foster, and a new application would be required at the end of the year when it could be seen how the business had been conducted.

Mr Stobart replied he had spoken to •the York police on this matter; because of the surrender of the Sayers licence before the takeover the company records had been chaotic.

Questioned about vehicles still being used without licence discs despite a warning at the last inquiry, Mr Stobart agreed that this was so. But he said that though these had been paid for they had not yet arrived.

With regard to maintenance facilities, said Mr Stobart, a ramp had been installed at the depot and had passed inspection.
