ON April 1 this year J. P. B. (lain) Sherriff will become editor of Commercial Motor. He has been deputy editor for the past eight years.

Mr Sherriff replaces H. B. Cottee, who from that date is appointed publisher of Commercial Motor and its associated journal Autocar. Mr Cottee became editor of CM in 1967 after six years as assistant editor; he had previously served on the editorial staff of Motor and The Aeroplane.

lain Sherriff joined CM in 1966, having previously been transport manager for Dunfermline Town Council for four years. He started his transport career with Scottish CWS, became transport officer with the Scottish Gas Board and was promoted to assistant transport superintendent before moving to the Dunfermline post. He is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Transport.

Donald Ridgway has been appointed general manager of P. S. Ridgway haulage and managing director of Road Services (Tayside) Ltd. He took up his new jobs on February 1 after 12 years with J. and E. Transport Ltd.

Down in Southampton Enzo Meyer has been appointed joint managing director of Traders Continental Ltd, international removals specialists. He moves to Southampton from Jeppeson Heaton Ltd.

Pickford's new area manage/ for Scotland is 39-year-old Douglas Chisholm who takes over the job from being manager of the Glasgow branch.

Changes at the Department of the Environment announced this week include second permanent secretary Mr P. R. Baldwin who will be responsible for planning and transportation and will also have responsibility for roads.

On the franchise front John Rushworth has been appointed Bedford franchise manager by the Mitchell Cotts group company Prestage. He has been with Prestage for four years and moves to his new job from being sales manager at the Coleshill branch. He will continue to be based at Coleshill.

Thomas Kane has been awarded a degree from the Open University. Mr Kane, a 32-year-old freight terminal supervisor with Freightliners at Gussetfaulds, Glasgow, has got a BA degree and the title of Exceptional Student—one of only six in the country.

He will now take a course with Freightliners to broaden his experience.
